Hippie Grenade
With a sound as unique as their name, Hippie Grenade successfully creates a blend of genres that is as much roots as it is contemporary. Displaying a refreshing jazz sensibility and coupling funk and soul with rock and roll, it's clear this San Francisco quintet stands out even amidst the diverse musical climate that defines the Bay Area. Their songs are reminiscent of the varied musical styles of Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, Soundgarden, Parliament, and the Grateful Dead - all rolled into one. Yet perhaps most impressive is the seamless end result; at no time does this eclectic mix come across sounding forced, contrived, or even intentional.
Hippie Grenade formed in 2002 in Santa Cruz, California, a sleepy college town with an appetite for live music. After playing countless house parties, news of their infectious live shows spread quickly, and they soon found themselves a devoted following as they became legendary among the local college music scene. However, by 2004, they had outgrown the small town, and left Santa Cruz for the bright lights of San Francisco. There they've been ever since, solidifying their reputation as one of the best live bands in the Bay Area. Indeed, Hippie Grenade's sound reaches its impressive zenith at their rollicking live performances, where the band's energy and technical ability are on forefront display.
